Where is the Best Place to Start Now that I Finally Have an Idea for My Online Business?

Author: Charlotte Alice

Writers suffer from writer's block, tennis players have tennis elbow, sports players the world over suffer from loss of form. Would be Internet entrepreneurs suffer from lack of ideas, it's a fact of life. As someone who owns my own online business, I know how frustrating it can be to come up with new and original ideas and to work out where to start in order to make a success of things.

To help you out, we have provided a good source of information below. These will not give you the keys to the mansion, instead they are there to provide you with the tools to conduct your research.

You should be constantly reading and researching. If you have your own hobbies and interests then all the better. We all know that a business or web site based upon something you are passionate about is more likely to succeed than something you care little about.

Use the tools provide by the search engines, Google Trends for example is a great way to learn about which keywords people are searching for and in what area they live. I also love eBay Pulse, although it is worth taking the results with a pinch of salt it is an uncannily accurate insight into the psyche of our nation.

Another good tip is to look at Froogle. I love this tool because there are not a lot of people using this as a research tool. There is an option to view recent searches, often this produces some very interesting results and trends that might have passed you by. Some of my most popular Adsense sites have come from doing research on Froogle, even with a thousand guesses you would not come up with the topics.

Go to your local newsagents and take a look at all of the magazines and newspapers, limiting yourself to one source of information might restrict you from learning about other areas. Besides, with so many filters, news on demand, RSS feeds etc we often only read about what we want to read about, not what could be making us money.

Forums are a very important part of our daily life, not because we're antisocial and do not like talking to people but because it gives us an insight into the types of questions people are asking. Some online business forums are actually full of great advice, it's worth researching a few, contributing and building relationships with some of the more experienced posters.

Try to meet people in the flesh, attend different events and speak to people who already have successful Internet businesses. The power of the joint venture is severely under estimated, the types of relationships that can grow away from email and instant messenger is very important. A good joint venture could open your product up to many thousands of potentially new clients.

If all else fails, there is always the old favourite pen and paper. Still stuck for ideas or wondering how to put everything in your mind onto the Internet? Try writing it all down and prioritising what you need to do first. Often when we're away from our PC's we can think a little clearer without distraction.
