How's Your Breathing?

Author: Barry McDonald

Are you conscious of breathing? Did you know you can add years to your life and life to your years by doing something you do every day? Civilized man has taken on a lot of bad habits over the generations but none more important than his breathing technique. If we look back at our ancestors and even animals in nature we'd see that they breathed in to full capacity and through their nose.

It seems funny to remark how the majority of us breathe nowadays through our mouths. We were given a nose to breath through and yet don't use it. You'd never think of pushing food up our nose, would we? We wonder way we pick up so many infections and colds could this be the reason?

By breathing through our mouths we bypass the natural protection given to us by our nose. The air entering our nose is filtered and warmed up before it enters the windpipe and lungs. Some damage can also occur to the delicate lining of the organs from foreign bodies and cold air entering through the mouth.

How are we losing out physically by poor breathing, as we all know the air enters our lungs and is passed over to the blood stream for replacing the carbon dioxide and other waste products, and then sent around the body. But, if the amount of oxygen coming in isn't enough to replace the used oxygen in our system. We are then sending a smaller amount around our body which won't be enough for our body to use, and so our bodies become less and less productive, and we end up on a slow downward spiral resulting in less energy, tiredness and poor health.

So, as you take in that next breath, ask yourself honestly "Have I got lazy with my breathing technique?"
