Valentine's Day: Marketing with a Passion

Author: Dina Giolitto

Today is February 14- Happy Valentine's Day! Did you wake up with your heart all aflutter? Okay, neither did I.

Truth be told, I forgot it was Valentine's Day. I wake up every morning thinking about my latest marketing scheme. But here's why you should *love* Valentine's Day, even if you don't have a sweetheart, think flower arrangements are a waste of money and your general M.O. is "no-nonsense, non-demonstrative, I'm-too-cool-for-corny-cards-and-candy."

Valentine's Day IS about marketing, and that's why it's such an important holiday for copywriters, internet marketers, advertising execs, designers, retailers, vendors, and everyone who wants a piece of the holiday revenue.

Commercial holidays are yet another way to create a buzz out of what was otherwise just another ho-hum day. Humans catch this fever, and it causes them to do something that's actually quite absurd - go out and BUY THINGS they DON'T NEED.

Can you imagine how much money large companies invest to actively campaign "ordinary days" like Valentine's Day? And to think this started out as just another pagan celebration dating back to early civilization.

As a professional copywriter, I make my living creating marketing materials geared toward Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, Easter and the like. I even invented a holiday recently called Web Content Awareness Day which you can explore at my website.

You can profit from holidays just as easily. Humans will always try to sell things to each other, especially on festive occasions. That said - the need for communication is always present. If you're an online or print content provider, there is a global need for what you offer!

Next time there's a big holiday on the horizon, make sure you get your name out there with some aggressive pre-holiday marketing. Advertise your creative services, sign up to be an affiliate of a holiday-related product, create a holiday website and capitalize on the human need to turn everything into a major event.

Here's a Valentine's Day sample from my copywriting collection - this one's geared to the little ones. Enjoy-- and Happy Valentine's Day! :)
