People of the Century by Dan Rather

Author: Lance Winslow

Dan Rather made a significant and tactical error and got involved in politics where he should not have gone. I personally and millions of Americans lost complete respect for him and he left the news media under a cloud of darkness while disgracing his family name and negating so much of his earlier work. But alas I cannot deny one of his books and specifically the sincerity of his voice before he lost any good sense he had. I would like to recommend his audio tape, as it does enlighten us as to just how great we are as a nation and lists some superstars in the last century, many of which should be honored in this way and are still amongst us today. I therefore recommend:

Audio Tape; People of the Century, By Dan Rather, read by about fifteen great Americans.

It told of the people who split the atom, broke the sound barrier, first to fly, cloned sheep, found vaccination for polio, manufactured the silicon chip, went to the moon, stopped nuclear war. Talked of philosophers, scientists, politicians, generals, dictators, economists, leaders, actors, sports heroes, entrepreneurs. It was a great re-cap of the previous century. It was a six-hour re-cap of the people who changed our thoughts and moved the world into this century. It is the people who made things the way they now are. Before you allow your kids to ask you why are things done that way, you should hear these tapes let them get a glimpse of our history from this first hand account. So when you answer the question you will know the answer. There is a reason for everything and nothing is arbitrary, so when you are asked the questions you know you will be asked, be prepared to give the correct answer so that the next generation will not have to relive the same mistakes and maybe able to improve upon what we have built.

I recommend this series of tapes to everyone who hated history class. It is easy to listen to and there is no excuse to live your life in ignorance or to teach your kids inaccurate data. It is a travesty to watch our schools re-invent our history to put a favorable light on the past. We should never lie about the past or we shall surely repeat it. We are watching things today that are changing our lives forever, yet we are not understanding as a population because we forgot the past. The past is the future and the future the past, all that we can change is the present, so we better make the best of every answer to every question. The present is where you change the future; because, the future is the now. So think about this for a second. This is why we study the past; it does not have to be a rerun. Share our greatness with your children, listen and think on it, youll be glad you did. Beside Dan Rather probably needs the money now that he lost his job for a very bad choice he made.

Lance Winslow

Currently Lance is retired at age 40 and is running an Online Think Tank Forum while traveling North America. Perhaps considering something extremely challenging to do that will exercise his mind and utilize all his experiences, observations and skills. Any ideas?
