Doctor Dean -- Take Two of These and Call Me in the Morning

Author: Nathan Tabor

Sometimes an article writes itself -- especially when Howard Dean is the subject. As with any mention of "Dizzy" Dean," you can be certain that the written theme will be about an outrageous remark he made, a very public remark. Well readers -- I'm here to please.

Let's start with Dean's most recent claim that U.S. Representative Katherine Harris and her handling of the 2000 vote recount efforts for candidates Al Gore and George Bush likened her to Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

As Florida's Secretary of State at the time, she certified Bush's win with the narrow margin of 537 votes. Not content with comparing her to a man responsible for the death of millions, he added that she is also "a crook," apparently for overseeing the long and drawn out recount process that gave Bush the state. As even the liberal Miami Herald concluded after a lengthy process of running various "what if?" scenarios after the election, Bush would have inevitably prevailed.

Not content to drag up old accusations of Harris helping Bush to steal the 2000 presidential election, he threw more red meat to a crowd of Democratic supporters in West Palm Beach, FL, by accusing Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki of being an "anti-Semite."

Putting aside the circumstances that had Dean turning on Maliki, what makes Howard's comments so amusing is the fact that the subject of his speech was a call for an end to political divisiveness!

I don't know how anyone can explain the inner workings of Howard Dean, the DNC leader who Democratic leaders try to shun, while Republican big-wigs can only clap their hands with glee whenever the good Doctor opens his mouth.

He's certainly an enigma to me. I will, however, note that Doctor Dean can write his own prescriptions.
