Work Place Communication at Oil Change Companies

Author: Lance Winslow

Workplace communication is not only for the office. Consider if you will and oil change facility. The workers are changing the oil in a car as a team. The workers are working at different levels, one, is working underground and removing the oil through the oil plug. Another is working above putting in the oil.

If the worker on the bottom of a car fails to put the plug back and the oil being put in the top of the engine then it will all leak back out the bottom of the car and the car might drive away with no oil at all? This is one reason why most oil change facilities train their employees to call out each event as it occurs so that the other employees will hear them. This verbal communication system prevents oil plugs from not getting back into the car also.

One of the biggest scary things that can happen at an oil change facility is that the oil is put back into the car but the plug is never returned and the car drives leaving a trail of oil until there is no oil in the car and then the engine seizes halfway down the road or home for the customer. This is one example of the importance of workplace communication in the automotive service sector.

And you can see that it is very important and it has nothing to do with office workplace communication. You should look at all aspects of your business and find out where you can improve workplace communication and educate your employees so that they can work more efficiently and safer. Work place communication is not just for the office. Please consider this in 2006.
