The Greatness Within

Author: Miguel Arechavaleta

Dear Friend,

I am writing to you as I study of of my favorite texts-Camus' A Happy Death. My years of philosophical training study have taught me that I should take the time to reflect on life often. I was thinking about how terrible it is that people just aren't thinking anymore. Due to the lack of thinking that is going on people are rarely listening to one another but rather simply hearing each other. There is a difference of course.

This week reflect on how it is that one can become a better listener. It is something that I have had to work on quite a bit in my own life. Developing sensitivity to the needs of others can bring tremendous growth to one's personal relationships. It also makes it more likely that people will return the favor.

Work hard on being the kind of person that you want to become rather than simply being who you are. Am I saying that you shouldn't be proud of who and what you are? Certainly not. What I am saying is that you should continually expand yourself and be conscious of maximizing your capabilities to the best of your ability. The problem with the term "best of your ability" is that you will never know what that is unless you are continually testing yourself.

When we fail to learn we learn to fail. This week take the time to think about where and how you can expand your mind through study and reflection.

To Your fulfillment,

Miguel Arechavaleta
